Don't miss the last performance of the season!
Heavenly Visions
April 23, 2011, 7 p.m.
Conant Performing Arts Center, Oglethorpe University
Join us as we close our 10th anniversary season with a night of Heavenly Visions, featuring Holst's most famous work, The Planets. You've heard it used for commercials and fireworks, now hear the whole thing. This brilliant survey of the solar system paints a series of astrological characterizations indicating each planet's potential influence on the human psyche. Earlier in the evening, sink into the harmonic wonder of Vaughan Williams' 1910 Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, inspired by Anglican melodic lines from the English Renaissance of the 1500s. We open with this season's exciting Premiere Program debut of an original classical work, Discovery, by modern Atlanta composer Seyed Safavynia. This concert is co-sponsored by Oglethorpe University's Arts & Ideas at Oglethorpe series.
