Every piano should be tuned at least once a year. If a piano is very out of tune, it may need to be tuned more than once to sound good. With the changes in temperature and humidity the effects on your piano will cause it to go out of tune. By servicing your piano on a regular basis, your instrument will sound good for any occasion.
If you have a piano that gets lots of use, it may be necessary to tune it more than once a year. Churches, schools and music teacher pianos should be tuned in the spring and fall.
New pianos should be tuned at least three times a year the first two years, twice a year for the next three years and at least once a year there after. Some piano companies recommend tuning their pianos four times a year.
Concert pianos should be tuned before each performance. These instruments may need to be tuned before any sound checks, again before the concert and be touched up between performance sets. Performers often require a tuner to be on hand, back stage, throughout the concert in case they are needed.
If there is any one good thing you can do for your piano, it is to have it tuned on a regular schedule.
