Some individuals like Millie Torres-Ruiz are very passionate about their heritage. 

That is why Ms. Torres has started a new business - Be Bilingual - to teach people Spanish.

Be Bilingual classes will begin on July 11 for six weeks. Students 9 years old and older as well as adults are welcome. Classes will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood. Ms. Torres will hold introductory classes this summer, and evening and weekend classes this fall and spring. Ms. Torres also caters to businesses that want their employees to learn Spanish.

''Some people take a few courses in college and never use it. If you learned Spanish awhile ago, no matter how long, refresh your memory and begin again,'' she said. ''It is never too late. Get friends together before a trip and brush up so you can haggle in the market or be able to converse with the locals. Have employees learn Spanish to connect with and market your product to the growing Hispanic population. If you know someone who speaks Spanish and would like to learn to read and write in Spanish, this is the perfect course.''
